Jim used Acts 3:1-10 as the basis for his message
The story of the lame beggar being carried to outside the temple where he sat everyday and begged for money.  He faced many obstacles. Then Peter and John said “Look at  us” and they healed the beggar.  He ran into the Temple praising God. People were filled with wonder and amazement.  The lame beggar progressed from asking for help to praising God.
Dad’s love two things, To make Progress and Winning
Progress for most of us is measured in what we have accomplished. Moving A to B, start to finish, good to great, and trying to improve somehow.
God appreciates a healthy view of progress, in one’s family, work, social and spiritual life.  Looking at Spiritual progress, likely all of us at some point have faced obstacles that hinder us from spiritual progress
– Temptations that steal our attention
– Anger
– Pride
– Busyness
– Idolatry
– Unaware of how to make spiritual progress
Key point to making spiritual progress – God needs to be in control.
So how do you address those obstacles and let God take control, and move forward with your Spiritual progress?
Hands out in Prayer
Prayer is a starting point to spiritual progress. Giving those obstacles or worries to God. Do we pray like a grab and go? “God give me what I want, I don’t have time for the process!”  Do we remember that “Your (God’s) will be done. (as in the Lord’s Prayer) “not my will but yours” (Jesus prayer in the Garden)
Hands Together
Fellowship with other Christians.  Making that connection is a key way the Holy Spirit makes Spiritual progress. Looking at each other in scripture is most always about spiritual connection. How relevant is “the look” ? How important was it that the beggar looked directly at Peter and John? Others help you understand, give you support, acknowledge your connection. We have all seen “that” connection through a look. A look can express many things. In this case a look means Hands Together in community with Jesus.
Hands Up in Praise
Isaiah 35:2 gives us the goal of spiritual progress “the people shall see the glory of God”. Progression to – Hands Up – Praising. The beggar went into the temple praising God
Book ends of spiritual progress are praying and praising – both proclaiming it is not about me, it is about almighty God.  Both are about saying I have nothing, you God have everything, your power is made perfect in my weakness.
A Fathers Day Conclusion:
Dad’s love 2 things—progress and…
Dads like getting wins…our Father in heaven does too, and so on this
Father’s day, when you make spiritual progress by starting with hands out in prayer, hands together in community and with Jesus, and hands high in praise, God wins—and when God wins, we all win.
