Sunday April 27, we had the privilege of hosting guest speaker Deen Salami. Several key points stuck out to me in his message.
Deen spoke to Acts where the Lord gave the Church the mission of spreading the Kingdom of God. (The rule of God). How – thru the Holy Spirit. The Lord promised the Apostles he would empower them to be his witnesses. To witness is the mission. He recalled Acts 2:37 where Peter gave his first sermon which was so powerful that Peter through the Holy Spirit brought 3,000 lives to be changed that day.
Essentially Peter was being the witness he was empowered to be. As Deen pointed out, that is our mission. Do want to hear “Well done thou good and faithful servant”, as God told Nehemiah. That would be a true motivator for all of us to hear that.
Deen pointed out some good news in that he noted the Bana Group, a research group that focuses on cultural issues is seeing some changes. They, as other groups, noted that Christianity was on the decline for many years. Interest in spiritual things but specifically in commitment to Jesus Chrrist were at record lows. However they noted several examples where that decline has stopped and in fact there is some renewed interest in learning about a higher power. Students in particular are driving this change. Why?, Because students are hearing the Gospel being contextualized for them and they are hearing real answers to the biggest questions of life.
Fawn Lake Church can and does play a part in this. Helping us answer the major questions in life.
Our next posting will summarize several NYTimes articles that help support some of the cultural changes happening.
